It allows you to bundle multiple design elements together so they move, resize, and rotate as one cohesive unit. This magical feature transforms your scattered design components into a well-behaved team that follows your commands in perfect harmony.
Why is this important? Because life’s too short to chase runaway text boxes across your canvas like a frazzled shepherd herding design sheep.
It’s time to master the art of grouping and ungrouping in Canva! When you’ve created a masterpiece with multiple elements in Canva that you need to move them around as one unit, group them together!
Simply select elements by click and drag your mouse, or hold the shift key while clicking each element you want to group. Once those elements are selected, click group in the toolbar.
Voilà! Now you can move that logo, text, and sparkly unicorn as one thing!
If you’re on a mobile device using the Canva app, just tap and hold an element, then tap and hold other pieces to gather your collection before you tap group.
Select multiple elements (Shift + click or drag over them), then press CONTROL + G (Windows) / Cmd + G (Mac) or right-click and choose Group.
Need to make changes? Select the group and ungroup.
Just remember, you cannot group objects across different pages – even Canva has boundaries!

If you’re on a computer, simply click and drag your cursor over the elements or hold the shift key while clicking each element you want to group.
Once all your chosen things are highlighted (they’ll know they’re special when elements are selected), find that magical group option in the toolbar. If you’re using the Canva app on your mobile device, simply tap and hold an element, then select as many elements before you triumphantly tap on Croup.
Graphic design often requires you to group text with images. Grouping and ungrouping elements is simple. First, select multiple things in Canva by holding shift or dragging your cursor over multiple objects you want to group multiple items together.
Once you’ve chosen the elements you wish to combine, click the group button or use the keyboard shortcut to create a group. This allows you to move elements as a single element or group, making it easier to move multiple things simultaneously.
If you need to edit multiple things later, knowing how to ungroup is essential. Simply select the group and ungroup the elements to modify them individually. You can then want to add more elements you want to add before you create the group again.
The mobile app also lets you easily group or ungroup items together. By learning to group things efficiently, you’ll save time without upgrading to Canva Pro. When you want to select and group selected objects, you’ll work more productively with multiple Canva elements to select and group together.
Group elements:
Ctrl + G (Windows) / Cmd + G (Mac)
→ Groups the selected elements into one group.
Ungroup elements:
Ctrl + Shift + G (Windows) / Cmd + Shift + G (Mac)
→ Breaks the selected group back into individual elements.
Select multiple objects:
Hold Shift and click on each element individually
→ Allows you to select multiple Canva items before grouping.
Select all elements on a page:
Ctrl + A (Windows) / Cmd + A (Mac)
→ Useful if you want to group everything at once.
Align selected elements:
Use Position button or manually drag – Canva will show smart alignment guides.
In Canva, you can easily group your selected items for more efficient editing. By holding the shift key on your keyboard, you can select multiple objects and then click the button to group them. This allows you to move and edit multiple items around proportionally.
Group the Elements:
Select all the elements you wish to group by holding down Shift and clicking each one, or press Ctrl + A (Windows) / Cmd + A (Mac) to select all.
Right-click on the selected elements and choose Group, or use the shortcut Ctrl + G (Windows) / Cmd + G (Mac).
Re-size the Group:
Click on the grouped elements to select them.
Drag any of the corner handles to change the size. Canva will proportionally scale all elements within the group, maintaining their aspect ratios.
This functionality is particularly useful when you want to scale complex designs without distorting individual components. By resizing the group as a whole, you ensure that all elements remain in harmony, preserving the overall aesthetics of your design.
Yes. Double-click the group or press Enter to “enter” the group and edit individual items without ungrouping.
Yes. After grouping, use the Position button to align the group relative to the page or other elements.
Yes. You can still use Forward / Backward options (right-click or toolbar) to change the layer position of a group.

Group related items (like icons and their labels) to keep layouts clean and manageable.
Use grouping for consistent scaling – resize charts, labels, or content blocks proportionally.
Name groups (if using folders or templates) to stay organized in complex designs.
Use layers wisely—grouped elements still follow layering logic, so bring groups forward/backward as needed.
Lock groups after positioning to avoid accidental changes (click the padlock icon).
